1. Holiday Rock ‘n’ Roll Garage Sale
Road trip … !!
What started as a tiny, DIY celebration has grown into a six-year legacy of sharing music, art and, for the first time this year, holiday merriment. This year, eight Oklahoma bands will perform in Oklahoma City, and vendors will sell everything from records, clothing, artwork, jewelry, musical instruments to other eclectic odds and ends. Plus, there is a canned food drive for Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, and delicious food will be available from OKC restaurants Galileo Bar & Grill, Iguana Mexican Grill, La Luna, Prohibition Room and Sauced. Tulsa-area acts include Colourmusic and Billy JoeWinghead. Other artists include Traindodge, The Dirty Mugs, The Electric Primadonnas, The Beltline, Toil & Trouble and Psychotic Reaction.
Noon-8 p.m. Saturday, CDWarehouse, 905 N. Broadway, Oklahoma City. Free. All ages.

2. Dropkick Murphys
For a band that just played for fun some 12 years ago in the basement of a friend’s Boston barbershop, this Irish-American Celtic punk band has forged a hyper-loyal fan base, celebrating working-class solidarity.
8 p.m. Monday. Cain's Ballroom, 423 N. Main Street. All ages. Click here for ticket info

3. Native American Fall Music Festival
Touting “fry bread as big as your head,” this festival not only celebrates Native American Heritage Month, but also includes theWorld Championship Fry Bread Cookoff … and a variety of roots-based music from Smilin’ Vic, Chebon Tiger, Blues Nation, The Jaspa Kings, Jimmie Johnson, Pumpkin Hollow Boys. Started in 2006, the event was founded to promote Native American musicians from across the state.
Noon-midnight Saturday, Rose Bowl Event Center, 7419 E. 11th St. $5, all ages. Call 671- 2417 or 381-2234.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.

RT @AboutAquarius: An #Aquarius can sometimes be consumed by their own thoughts, especially at night. They can't find the "off" switch.
