The first (and last) time I saw this band, they repeatedly griped during the show about politics to the point where it kept interrupting the show. I, and many others, left. I would go if it was free, but if they do the bitter politics talk a lot again there will be some pretty bored NYE revelers.

Probably a great resource for political information too. I can't remember the last time Flaming Lips were relevant. If I wanted to see or hear crap I'd go watch Ke$ha flop around on stage.

NYE is best left to the experts, not this opening act.
They put on a fantastical NYE show. This year will be my third time to seethe NYE show. Nobody -- and I mean nobody -- seemed bored at any of 'em.

Jen, we are all entitled to our opinions and it's nice we all don't have the same tastes. Aside from the constant political rantings, I found the show to be fairly boring. Most shows where the focus is on stage props I've found tend to be less about the music. Anyone can roll around in a big blow-up beach ball. Not everyone can sign and play musical instruments. I listened to several of their discs several times before I went to the show. I tried to like these guys, but just found the music unoriginal and frankly, fairly boring. Nothing catchy about it. I see a lot of shows, and like a huge range of music and am a former musician...these guys are average musicians who got a little bit lucky. Good for them. I'll check out some of the other good shows coming to Tulsa instead.
Yep, indeed. You are correct. To each his own. The awesome thing is that music can be so universal and personal all at once. There's plenty to go around for everyone. Especially in Tulsa. If you go to our home page today we have a roundup of lots and lots of Tulsa and area event for New Year's Eve. Enjoy. Happy holidays!! -- Jennifer

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
