Love me a good horror film with a happy ending.

They're few and far between, it seems, as many scary flicks have a surprise, not-so-happy ending. I won't use any examples, so as not to ruin a film for you. Hate when people do that.

Anyway, I love a good scary movie. I assume it's part adrenaline rush, part escape from the drudgery of reality or some blah, blah, blah. Whatever, it's fun, and I'm sure I'll be glutting on scary flicks now through next Monday.

Among my annual favorites are "Interview with a Vampire," which isn't scary anymore, just a tradition. Same goes for Francis Ford Coppola's take on "Dracula."

Among the best scary thrillers I've seen lately is "Frozen," where these three friends end up being trapped on a ski lift. Seen it?

Recently, y'all told me what some of the WORST horror films were ("Gone With the Wind" was probably my favorite answer), so now I want some serious(ish) recommendations for good scary movies I can rent or buy between now and All Hallow's Eve.

Peace, love and lots of screming ... j.a.w.

P.S.: Each year, I love hearing Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" read by various celebrities, including Christopher Walken and the late-great Vincent Price. One of my faves, though, is James Earl Jones. Check out his version at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXU3RfB7308.

Motel Hell...meant to be scarey, but so low budget, it's hilariously unsettling, if that is possible. One thing is for sure, you'll think twice before buying homemade sausage in the Ozarks!

Living Wright

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
