Clinton-born Toby Keith told Billboard magazine recently that he almost left his hit tune, “Made in America” off of his upcoming “Clancy’s Tavern” album.

“About a year and a half ago, me and Bobby Pinson were writing that song and I said, ‘Man, I might have to put this thing on the back burner for awhile,’” Keith told Billboard.com. “I’ve got ‘Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue,’ ‘American Soldier,’ I just did ‘American Ride’ (in 2009)...a lot of America songs. They’re just coming daily; if I did ‘em all, that’s all I’d record. I thought I should leave about three or four years between ‘em and let the last one breathe a little, y’know? I figured (‘Made in America’) could wait for the next (album).”

But producers talked him into including it, telling him the song was a “smash,” he said.

Clancy’s Tavern” is expected out Oct. 24 in standard and deluxe editions.

According to Forbes magazine, the music-maker earned more than $50 million dollars last year, more than any other country music star. Taylor Swift was No. 2, with an estimated $45 million earned. Brad Paisley hit No. 3 with $40 million earned.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
