Queenie's tomato tart
Attached to my review of Queenie's in Utica Square in today's Weekend section is a photo of the restaurant's tomato tart.
I didn't order the tomato tart the day I dined there for the review, but my wife subsequently got her hands on one and called me raving about how good it was. She generously saved a bite for me when I got home, and it was extraordinary.
The tart shell was perfect, a little crispy and flaky, and it was filled with a layer of cheddar cheese, a layer of caramelized onions and a layer of roasted tomatoes topped with fresh basil. It was amazing how beautifully these ingredients blended together.
This would be a perfect dish for a small-group lunch gathering. They are $5 by themselves, $8 with a side.
This makes a return trip even more difficult. Do I order the cheese dream grilled cheese sandwich, the ultra egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad or Queenie burger? Or do I go with the tomato tart? One of life's difficult decisions.
