WAYNE'S WORLD
Coworkers have been riding me all day that my American history quiz on Monday’s front page was too hard.

Healing historic injustices – whether they are five years old or 5,000 – starts with acknowledging them, a retired diplomat ...
The number of local homeowners who see their property tax assessments go up 5 percent automatically every year is decreasing, ...
I've been smiling all week thinking about the argument between Barack Obama and John McCain about who al-Qaida wants elected president.
It started when a radical Islamic Web site featured a post that said John McCain would be good for al-Qaida because he would continue George W. Bush's Iraq policy, which recruits members for al-Qaida and depletes the American economy.
Instead of simply ignoring the post, McCain's supporters called a conference call to put forward the reverse-logic argument that in fact, al-Qaida wants Obama elected and, knowing that Americans would always do whatever they think al-Qaida doesn't want, slyly made the post, knowing it would drive people to Obama.
Of course, Obama could argue that al-Qaida would know that Americans would know that al-Qaida would know that that Americans wouldn't do what al-Qaida wants, so they would tell us what they really want us to do, knowing that we suspect it was the opposite.
It's got me smiling because it all reminds me of one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies, "The Princess Bride."
The pay-off line of the scene is this one: "Never get involved in a land war in Asia."
You can see the scene here.
