Tulsa World's Bruce Plante takes on the weather

I might be a little bit biased, being a coworker and all, but I love Tulsa World editorial cartoonist Bruce Plante's work here.

I especially like it when his cartoons involve the weather, so I casually brought up the idea of doing a collaborative blog entry with some of weather 'toons. He happily obliged!

To kick things off, we chose his Earth Day cartoon:

Ah, Earth Day. Is April 22 in Oklahoma headed for sunny beach weather? Here's how its been for Tulsa the past few years, according to the National Weather Service:

April 22, 2011: A high of 90 and trace amounts of rain. This was the hottest day of that month this year.

April 22, 2010: Trace amounts of rain, but only a high of 81 this year.

April 22, 2009: A unseasonable high of 91 degrees, but no rain recorded.

April 22, 2008: A more seasonable 80-degree high, but once again, trace amounts of rain.

April 22, 2007: Our "coldest" high with only 79 degrees, but once again trace amounts of rain.

In other words, we'll likely get warm temperatures on Earth Day in 2050, but don't be surprised with we also get rain.

Staff Writer Althea Peterson started writing for the Tulsa World in March 2007 after previous stops at the Norman Transcript in 2006 and the Oklahoma Gazette in 2005.
