How do Tulsa's June temperatures compare with last June?

Yes, as one of you pointed ...

Rains improve drought conditions, but we're still on the edge

The deluge earlier this month was exciting. For a second, I though that maybe the near-record parched May was just a fluke ...

Here’s something I haven’t seen in a while.

Look at all that blue! It's been several months since we've seen a map with any shades of blue in it. All we've seen is the scorching red temperature or dark brown drought maps.

The system that brought rain to some of the area (but not Tulsa.....more on that later) also brought that good northern air with it. Even now, at 10 a.m., the temperature change from 24 hours ago is about 20 degrees.

And the morning low is 42 degrees lower than Sunday's high temperature of 91 degrees.

So, more normal fall temperatures are here, and will likely be here for at least the foreseeable future. It could even be below normal in some areas, with highs forecast this week to be in the low 60s to upper 50s and lows flirting with freezing.

Now, about that rain.

Officially, at Tulsa International Airport, only a trace was recorded. What I saw out my window sure looked like there was going to be more than a trace, but no dice.

Two lines formed north and south of Tulsa and dropped some good rains down there. No flash floods or anything, but a nice, healthy storm, especially for parts of southeast Oklahoma, which have been hurting for some time.

The winners from yesterday's rain were both in southeast Oklahoma with over an inch of rain:

  • Clayton in Pushmataha County: 1.28 inches

  • Broken Bow in McCurtain County: 1.03 inches

Both those areas are in or very close to the most extreme drought category in Oklahoma, so the precipitation was very welcome, I'm sure.

The next chance for rain comes this weekend, so until then, enjoy this sunshine and cool fall weather.
