Tulsa mom, nutrition-product executive shares healthy lifestyle strategies

Holly and Corbin Roush
Holly Roush believes in a holistic lifestyle.
"To me, this means that my physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and financial health must all be addressed and kept in balance in order to be happy and successful," Roush shared with me this week.
Roush, a Tulsa mom of three, starts her morning with 10-15 minutes of prayer and a daily devotional "just to clear my head and begin the day on a positive note.
"Like Psalms 5:3 states, 'In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.' Then I maintain that feeling by surrounding myself with positive people with positive energy as I go about my day so I don't get into a negative space that could cause stress, anxiety and depression."
Roush, a leading executive for MonaVie nutrition products, will share some of that positive energy next week when she hosts a free health assessment session 7:30-9:30 p.m. Monday at the Stokely Event Center, 10111 E. 45th Place.
Tulsans can nab a peek at View, MonaVie's new antioxidant scanner. Participants that evening will be offered a free, real-time scan of their own antioxidant levels. Once guests receive their scores, they will learn strategies for improving their antioxidant levels and reducing free radical damage.
This week, we quizzed Roush for a few tips for leading a more holistic lifestyle:
As for physical health, I eat plenty of foods high in antioxidants so that my body has the ability to fight free radicals, which are so destructive to our health
. Antioxidants can even help slow the aging process, which keeps you looking better longer. And we all know what antioxidant-rich foods I'm talking about: fruits and vegetables. Our mothers, junior high health teachers and doctors have been lecturing us about them for years.
I also exercise 4-5 times a week, which means I need to keep myself motivated
. I do that by setting goals for myself. Right now, I've set a goal to run a half-marathon. It's a 10-week program, and four days a week I run, each day running a little bit further until I'm finally ready to run the half-marathon. But if I hadn't set that goal for myself, I never would have kept up with the exercise.
I use the same technique to keep my business and finances on track
, too. For example, when I was writing my book, "Holly{Would}: You Can Be Confident, Too!", I set a goal to spend at least two to three hours a day cataloging and writing pages for my book. That way, I stayed on schedule to finish the book.
When you set realistic goals for yourself you make a huge task seem manageable and enjoyable
, which makes you much more likely to finish the things you set out to do. Then you feel good about yourself because you're accomplishing something each day-and that's good for your physical, mental, emotional and even your financial health.
Monday's event is open to the public.
Peace, love and all things holistic ... XOXO

Living Wright
While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
