With this many counties under a burn ban, why isn't the entire state under a burn ban? Map courtesy of the Oklahoma Forestry Services

When it comes to temperature records, you have the highest highs and the lowest lows.

But, there are also the lowest highs and the highest lows.

And on Sunday, Tulsa broke its highest low for July 29.

  • Previous record: 82 degrees (set most recently in 1999)
  • New record: 86 degrees

  • I have a feeling that this is going to be a week filled with records broken, so rather than give the big list once again, here is a link to the last update I did earlier this month.

We will probably be answering the question "How hot is it?" all week.

As stated earlier in this blog, Tulsa is so hot that we are breaking records for the highest lows.

Tulsa is so hot that we are looking to restrict both outdoor burning and watering.

Tulsa is so hot that our current temperature is probably above 100 if you are reading this during daylight hours and above the 80s at all other hours.

    Stay tuned... and stay cool!

    I love this heat.

Unfortunately, plants, animals, structures, crops and normal people don't.
Everything's relative, I guess. I used to love hot, dry weather when I was a kid, because the river would grow shallower, making it easier to wade around in the water (I was very short... still am). Alas, the area farmers weren't too fond of those drier summers (or the extremely wet ones).

She followed her older brother from rural Wisconsin (with a public school that never seemed to call snow days) to the University of Oklahoma, but did not follow his pursuit to study meteorology. However, she tries to find as many opportunities to report on the weather as possible.
