Tulsa Sound architect
Dwight Twilley is one of the godfathers of power pop. He's created music that's influenced a generations of artists, including
Tom Petty and
Cheap Trick.
Twilley's 2010 album, "Green Blimp" has been re-released with two bonus tracks, reworked cover art and the liner notes now include the full story of the Green Blimp.
The album was recorded in Dwight Twilley’s
Big Oak Studio in Tulsa and features 14 pop tunes, including “
Speed of Light,” “
Let It Rain” and “
Ten Times.”
Special guests on the album, include
Bill Pitcock IV (of the original Twilley Band),
Rocky Burnette and
Susan Cowsill.
The album features Pitcock on lead guitar, nylon and acoustic guitars, with keyboards, strings, percussion and other musical seasonings.
The scale of Green Blimp suggests some harder-rocking variant on the classic "bigger-is-better" production styles of
Phil Spector or
Brian Wilson, though Twilley's melodic structures still sound familiar to the longtime listener.
