JD McPherson's video for the tune "
North Side Gal" recently saw its
Country Music Television debut.
It's already clocked nearly half a million views on YouTube.
The Broken Arrow resident recently was signed to Rounder Records, and his acclaimed solo album debut, "
Signs & Signifiers," is set for an April 17 release in the United States.
His distinctive sound blends blues, rockabilly, '50s-influenced rock 'n' roll and even elements of jazz.
The Oklahoma native joins an impressive roster of Rounder musicians, including Alison Krauss, Bela Fleck, Bon Iver, Dailey & Vincent, Robert Plant, J.J. Cale, Paul McCartney and dozens more.
McPherson was also picked up by Decca Records for UK distribution (label mates include Louis Armstrong, Morrissey, Annie Lennox and Billie Holiday).
Of McPherson, writer British music journalist Paul Lester said: "Tom Waits, Nick Lowe and John Prine are big fans of his - you should know that about JD McPherson at the start ..."
McPherson also headlines the
Mayfest festival on May 19 in downtown Tulsa.
