This morning, my editor asked me about the potential of Tulsa beating a weather record today or Tuesday.

But, before looking at records for 2013, perhaps we should look back at the...

Tulsa weather records of 2012


  • Warmest year on record


  • That's our only major new record, as we beat previous record-holder 1921 (63.7 degrees on average) by a whole degree (64.7).

    Of note on the rest:
  • We had three rainfall records, all of which were having the most rainfall on a day, none for dry months/seasons.

  • We had eight records for low temperatures (i.e. lowest temperature on a calendar date)

  • We had 54 records for high temperatures (i.e. highest mean temperature on a calendar date)


  • Here they are, just in case it ever comes up again. More are calendar date records, meaning that they are a record specific to that calendar date (example - the highest mean temperature ever recorded on Jan. 31):

    Jan. 31, 2012: 59 degrees, highest mean temperature
