My boss once described the difference in Twitter and Facebook by saying "Facebook is about who you're friends with and Twitter is about who you wish you were friends with." And while Twitter is still considered an unavoidable nuisance by some (I don't care what you're eating for breakfast), it's still one of the best ways to get time-consuming updates in bite-sized chunks.
If you're interested in looking back on the Year in Twitter, they've just released a site to help you do just that:
2012.twitter.com is a mini-site created by the company itself dedicated to revisiting some of the biggest moments of the past year as dictated by the popularity of the tweets that marked them. Not only can you view some of the past year's most popular tweets, but there's a place for what topics were "trending" this year as well as a look at some of the most popular conversations that took place. They even thought to include a list of notable additions for 2012, so if you're looking to follow Actress-turned-icon Betty White or Pope Benedict XVI, there's a button right there to do so.
But wait, it gets better! What good would this sort of service be if you couldn't get a look at
your own timeline of tweets? Twitter partnered with Vizify to give you an interactive infographic that splits your tweets up by topic and retweets. Not surprisingly, the keyword I used the most last year was "Tulsa". Go get a look at your own timeline by clicking on the "Your year on Twitter" button.
What did you find yourself tweeting about the most this year?
