Alec Baldwin: Count to 10 before Tweeting. (AP Photo)
The celebrity version of "drunk dialing" is now Tweeting one's every thought, and in Alec Baldwin's case, venting his every thought.
I'm sure we all know by now that the
30 Rock star shut down his Twitter account following a nasty
incident on a recent American Airlines flight.
Instead of going through his publicist (assuming he still has one), Baldwin Tweeted terrible things about a flight attendant and the airline, after he was removed from a flight for reportedly refusing to turn off his phone.
Oh boy.
The same thing happened just a few weeks ago with
Ashton Kutcher -- he got into hot water for spouting off about Joe Paterno's firing, before he knew all the facts.
The bottom line is this: Celebrities are NOT just like us. They live over-the-top lifestyles, with perks and pampering that we'll probably never experience. We love them because they entertain us, and we get to live vicariously through them via their tabloid exploits.
In return, their mistakes and (frequent) missteps are ours to play with and joke about in the office break room.
Way it goes.
I love reading some celeb Tweets, and Baldwin's were frequently quite funny. Others, not so much. Let's just say I 'unfollowed' one perky
Glee starlet this week, who was just sooooo into herself that I was worried I'd have permanent eye roll damage.
I'm sure there's more than one publicist out there who's ready for a nervous breakdown after these totally unnecessary Twitter incidents. I'm sure emergency board meetings are called, and top executives are yanked out of power lunches for these incidents -- that make instant news on every major media outlet in the world.
Seems the hot new punishment is for stars, like Baldwin and Kutcher, to be grounded from Twitter. Not long ago, it was a week in Malibu's Promises rehab.
I guess this is a lot cheaper.
