Make roasted, spiced pumpkin seeds for a Halloween treat.

Pumpkin patches, hayrides and haunted houses are in full swing with close to two weeks to go until Halloween.

I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to the spooky side of Halloween. But give me a field of pumpkins and gourds, and I'm happy.

My kids have already tromped over pumpkins all across town, including this weekend at a pumpkin patch in Sand Springs. The kids loved the pony rides, and I did a little pumpkin bowling.

Halloween events targeted for kids are, perhaps sadly, more my cup of tea. Here are two coming up that sound like a lot of fun.

Mummy and Me Dance
A special night out for moms and their sons, Mummy and Me is a Halloween dance with a costume contest and dance competition.
When: 6 p.m. Oct. 28
Where: Bixby Community Center, 211 N. Cabaniss in Bixby
Cost: $5

Camp Cute and Spooky
You'll find hayrides, a petting zoo, a fun maze, pumpkin painting and other activities designed for kids ages 10 and younger. Concessions, which cost extra, include caramel apples, tacos, hot dogs, chopped beef sandwiches and fried Oreos.
When: 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Oct. 28 and 29
Where: 19501 W. 41st St. in Sand Springs
Cost: $7

If you would rather stay in on your October weekends, make a Halloween feast of butternut squash soup, olive bread and pumpkin seeds for snacking. Pumpkin seeds are one of the best things about the pumpkins sitting on your front porch.

Spiced Pumpkin Seeds

2 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon garlic salt
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 cups raw whole pumpkin seeds

1. Preheat oven to 275.

2. Combine the butter, salt, garlic salt, Worcestershire sauce and pumpkin seeds. Mix thoroughly and place in shallow baking dish. Bake for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
