Broken Arrow musician JD McPherson is caught on tape! Er, video.

... performing his tune "Scandalous" with his band on the streets of Brighton, UK, for The Amazing Sessions at The Great Escape.

His latest album release, "Signs & Signifiers," from Rounder Records, just hit No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, and has entered the Billboard Top 200 and Rock charts. He makes his live national television debut 10 p.m. June 6 on "Conan," on TBS.

PLUS! Catch him live at Cain's Ballroom with Broncho on June 13. Tickets are on sale now at tulsaworld.com/cains.

Raves for "Signs & Signifiers":

"Oklahoma native plays timeless, forward-thinking rock & roll.” — Rolling Stone

“…pure-and-simple party music, make-out music and get-down-and-shake-it music, harbouring the sort of simple riffs and hooks that easily hop across the decades.” — BBC

“JD McPherson is destined to satisfy traditional American rock ‘n roll and R&B purists on his debut album.” — KCRW

“…plays rock ‘n roll and R&B that might as well have been frozen in the 50s and thawed this morning.” — Chicago Reader

“…sounds like the soul-searching brother of Little Richard when he sings.” — Boston Globe

“JD McPherson serves up rock ‘n’ roll straight, no chaser.” — Metro New York

“In its shake, rattle and roll, the singer-songwriter’s original compositions bring a contemporary approach to the classic stylings.” — MTV Buzzworthy

4 Stars — MOJO

If J.D. doesn't make you want to tap your foot or get up and dance, you're either deaf or dead.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
