I have a bone to pick with Funmi Odulate.
That actually sounds more ominous than I prefer. And I've never been fond of the "bone to pick" phrase -- ranks right up there with "happy go lucky." What the freak does that mean, anyway?
Whatever, there's this book called "Shopping for Vintage: The Definitive Guide to Vintage Fashion." It's a really cool book, which "takes the reader through every major fashion epoch, house and designer, telling you not only what to look for but where to look."
Case in point, it has a handy directory of vintage shops around the world, including a lengthy list of American shops. After reminding myself that O comes after N, I found Oklahoma. There are nine listed, including Vintage Vibe in Norman, Sparkle Plenty in OKC, as well as Jean's Vintage in Bethany.
But there were NONE listed for Tulsa, which has two awesome vintage spots that sprang quickly to mind: Deco to Disco and Cheap Thrills, both of which are on 15th Street. (If I'm missing one, holler back at me!) I've bought things from both places. The late-great Groovy Threads was where I found my pimp-tastic butterscotch leather coat with furry collar from the '70s, along with the same-colored, same-aged Frye boots.
So what gives, Ms. Odulate? Bone-pickin' aside, I still wanted to let y'all know about her book ($20, St. Martin's Griffin). If you travel frequently and love vintage, this guide's for you. Contact your favorite bookstore for ordering info.
Peace, love and vintage books ... xoxo
