Question: Are you a person who shuts your cell phone off:
(a) the moment you get on a plane
(b) after being prompted by the overhead instructions
or (c) after being prompted twice, the second time by a flight attendant (Excuse me, sir, but…)

If you picked “c” and are a frequent flyer of Virgin Atlantic Airlines, it looks like soon being disconnected at 35,000 ft. will be the least of your concerns. Pocket-lint.com reports that Virgin passengers will soon be able to use their mobile phones while flying.

The new Aeromobile initiative is being piloted on the airline’s airbus A330s. The phones are said to connect automatically with the plane’s own network “which ensures there’s no interference to its onboard electronics,” reports Pocket-lint.

The cacophony of the airplane’s engine, the air conditioner and the pure discomfort of flying is enough to adjust to without having to hear someone gab away on a phone with someone you’ll never meet.

I admit, having access to a means of communication is absolutely valuable, especially for emergencies. And I love overhearing the dramatic conversation every now and again, but peace I prefer even more.

*Hope this doesn’t “catch” on with too many other airlines.*

But what do you think about this new initiative? Does this seem like added value to fly or just another reason not to - in the same vein as baggage fees and fewer if any in-flight concessions?
