Watch a silent movie, accompanied by a pipe organ

The Tulsa Theatre Organ Society has been hosting silent movie nights long before the success of "The Artist." The society has a show at 7 p.m. Friday.

Who would have thought the silent movie would become the next big thing?

"The Artist" was one of the biggest winners of the night at Sunday's Golden Globes, giving people even more reason to see this black and white silent film.

Before silent movies were suddenly new again, they were watched by loyal fans attending the Tulsa Theatre Organ Society's silent movie nights. It all takes place at Tulsa Technology Center, where classic silent movies are played while a pipe organist accompanies the film.

At 7 p.m. Friday, the 1928 film "Speedy" will be shown with accompaniment by pipe organist Bill Rowland.

"Speedy" was nominated for an Academy Award in 1929. We don't yet know if "The Artist" will be nominated, but the odds are good.

It's not often you can spend your weekend watching silent movies, but this weekend's a good one for two.

When: 7 p.m. Friday
Where: Tulsa Technology Center, 111th Street and 129th East Avenue
Cost: Free

The Artist is one I would recommend. I don't recommend too many movies but this one I do.
