Aspiring young astronomers have several opportunities coming up for building their skills.

These events are perfect for kids with an interest in science, but they're just as great for those who think looking to the sky is for the birds.

Kids and their parents are invited to the Case Center in Sand Springs at dusk Friday night for a beginner's astronomy night. Telescopes will be set up, and kids can take a look into the night sky to look at the stars and the big dipper.

Also, the South Broken Arrow Library is teaming with the Broken Arrow Sidewalk Astronomers for a series of sky watching programs. Families can learn to build their own telescopes in the first program, 1 p.m. Saturday. The second program, "Our Cosmic Neighborhood: Neptune, God of the Sea," is at 6:30 p.m. Monday. After a presentation, families will have a chance to use the telescopes set up on the library lawn.

Looking ahead, "Our Cosmic Neighborhood: Pluto, God of the Underworld," takes place 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at the South Broken Arrow Library.

Wednesday: Astronomy for kids. Events coming up at Case Community Center in Sand Springs and South Broken Arrow Library, for aspiring astronomers.

Case Community Center, 1050 W. Wekiwa Road in Sand Springs
South Broken Arrow Library, 3600 S. Chestnut in Broken Arrow
