Weekly Planner: Your guide to what's happening this week

The Tulsa State Fair begins Thursday.

Twelve luchador matches will take place from 5 p.m. to nearly midnight on Saturday at Luchapalooza.

Add art to your mix of shopping and eating at Utica Square Saturday with the annual Art in the Square.

There's plenty going on around town this week, but the library story hours, the concerts, the museum exhibits will all be eclipsed by the fair.

Funnel cakes and Ferris wheels are pretty much universally loved, so it goes without saying that the Tulsa State Fair reaches people from every age in every demographic. Check back here for much more on the fair. I'll be hanging out there over the next 10 days or so, and will let you know the best things to do, eat and see at the fairgrounds.

Tuesday: Jazz Jam Session
It's the fourth Tuesday of the month, so that means it's jazz jam session time at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. These informal shows are a great way to end a work day. Have a glass of wine and listen to music from local players.
When: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, First Street between Cincinnati and Boston avenues

Wednesday: Music Sandwiched In
Here's a fun way to spend your lunch hour. Music Sandwiched In is the Tulsa Library's answer to the mid-week doldrums. Wednesday's show will be a fun one with string duo Appassionata's twist on songs by Pink Floyd, the Fray, Coldplay and Michael Jackson. It's all in the style of this interesting harp-viola duo.
When: Noon
Where: Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue
Cost: Free

Thursday: Tulsa State Fair
You know it's officially fall when it's state fair time. It all begins Thursday with a great deal on admission. Stop by a Ford dealership for a special coupon to receive $1 gate admission, which is regularly $5. Rides are $2 each on opening day.
When: The fair opens at 5 p.m. Thursday and runs through Oct. 9
Where: 21st Street and Yale Avenue
Cost: Gate admission is regularly $5

Friday: An Evening of Wine and Roses
Wine lovers look forward to this event all year. It's always a great night with crisp fall weather, the scent of roses, a beautiful setting and plenty of wine. Guests stroll the grounds of the Rose Garden for the wine and food tasting. Some of Tulsa's best chefs and restaurants are also there with perfectly paired hors d'oeuvres.
When: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday
Where: Tulsa Garden Center, 2435 S. Peoria Ave.
Cost: $75

Saturday: Art in the Square
What a fun way to spend a Saturday. Grab the dog's leash or the baby's stroller and roam around Utica Square for the annual Art in the Square. You'll find works by more than 100 local artists featured along the pathways of the storefronts. It's a nice outing, whether you're browsing or buying.
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Utica Square, 21st Street and Utica Avenue
Cost: Free

Saturday: Luchapalooza
You won't find a festival as unique as this one. Come downtown Saturday evening, and you'll find luchadors – the Mexican masked wrestlers that Elote has helped make famous in Tulsa – plus live music, a children's area and great food. Twelve luchador matches will take place until nearly midnight, so no matter when you come, you'll likely make a match.
When: 5 to 11:45 p.m.
Where: In front of Elote, between Fifth and Sixth streets on Boston Avenue
Cost: $5. Children 12 and younger are admitted free.
