Tuesday: Garden book club
If you’re a green thumb and a book lover, you'll love the Tulsa Garden Center's book discussion club. Tuesday the club meets to talk about the "Joy of Gardening Cookbook" by Janet Ballantyne. The book is a smart look at how to incorporate a love of gardening with the pleasures of eating and cooking.
When: 12 to 1 p.m.
Where: Tulsa Garden Center, 2435 S. Peoria Ave.
Cost: Free

Wednesday: Bartlesville ghost walk
Here's a fun pick for anyone who's at least intrigued by the idea of ghosts and the supernatural. It's a ghost walk through downtown Bartlesville with music, a cash bar and free appetizers. Historian Michelle M. Martin will deliver the tale of Mamah Borthwick Cheney, the mistress of Frank Lloyd Wright, who died in a fire.
When: 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday
Where: Price Tower, 510 S. Dewey Ave. in Bartlesville
Cost: Free

Thursday: Free jazz concert
You can't beat free, especially when it's a show you would be glad to pay to see. Catch the Tulsa Community College Jazz Band and Show Choir on stage in the TCC Music Department's Fall Concert.
When: 7 p.m.
Where: VanTrease PACE, on the TCC Southeast Campus, 81st Street and U.S. 169.
Cost: Free

Thursday: Lecture at Philbrook
Those with an interest in design will want to grab a seat for Philbrook's Third Thursday presentation featuring Paul Shaw, designer and author of "Helvetica and the New York City Subway System." Shaw will discuss how "typographic order trumped over visual chaos" under New York streets. It will be a fun lecture for design types but also of interest to anyone with a curiosity for the quirky.
When: 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: Patti Johnson Wilson Hall of Philbrook, 2727 S. Rockford Road
Cost: Free with museum admission, which is $9

Friday: Oktoberfest
The annual festival of beer, brats and the chicken dance begins Thursday. Friday and Saturday nights are especially popular times for all things German, including polka and potato pancakes. Also look for wiener dog races, a kids area and Bavarian cheesecake to die for.
When: 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday
Where: River West Festival Park, 2100 S. Jackson Ave.
Cost: $6

Friday: Camp Cute and Spooky
Looking for Halloween fun that won't scare the pants off your little ones? Discoveryland's Halloween festival begins Friday and runs through Oct. 29. You’ll find hayrides, a petting zoo, a fun maze, pumpkin painting and other activities designed for kids ages 10 and younger. Concessions, which cost extra, include caramel apples, tacos, hot dogs, chopped beef sandwiches and fried Oreos.
When: 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Oct. 28 and 29
Where: Discoveryland,19501 W. 41st St. in Sand Springs
Cost: $7

Friday: Sam Harris
Oklahoma-native Sam Harris will sing his heart out at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center. If you've seen a Sam Harris show, you know there will be plenty of Broadway, familiar tunes and mentions of his days growing up in Oklahoma.
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center, 701 S. Main St.
Cost: Tickets start at $25

Saturday: Decade of Divas
The Divas concert has become one of the can't-miss events in Tulsa. Now in its 10th year, the show will feature performances by talents including Annie Ellicott, Rebecca Ungerman and Cindy Cain. Proceeds go to Health Outreach Prevention Education (H.O.P.E.), which provides HIV prevention services.
When: 7 p.m.
Where: Cain's Ballroom, 423 N. Main St.
Cost: Tickets are $150 per person.

Saturday: Nimrod
It's time for Nimrod, the annual all-day writing conference for writers and aspiring writers. Here's your chance to listen in on panel discussions and readings with published writers and to talk to an editor in a one-on-one session.
When: 9:30 a.m.
Where: Allen Chapman Activity Center, 11th Street and Harvard Avenue
Cost: $50
