What a melon: Fireworks and fun with watermelon

When comes to fireworks, the waiting is often the hardest part for the little ones.

And there's still several hours to go before the big show.

If your kids are looking for something to do, consider letting them make these easy Red White and Blue Watermelon Sundaes.

The Fourth of July isn't complete without watermelon.

Check out some of my previous blogs this week for other watermelon recipes from cocktails to salads.

Red White And Blue Watermelon Sundaes
4 cups watermelon balls
2 cups fresh blueberries
4 dollops prepared whipped topping
1 piece Red, white and blue star sprinkles

Gently mix together the watermelon and blueberries. Divide among 4 sundae bowls. Top each with a dollop of topping and sprinkle with red ,white and blue sprinkles. Serve immediately.

Thanks for the recent slow cooker recipes. As a single guy, I do not consider myself a cook, I would call me an assembler, and I need all the help I can get. The slow cooker and "one-pot" methods are made for such as me. Friends and relatives gift me with cookbooks in sympathy, but those are written for gourmet chefs is my thought when reading what they require. Therefore I appreciate the simpler approaches to providing nutrition. Again, thanks!

When the opportunity to become the food writer at the Tulsa World presented itself in the summer of 2011, Nicole jumped at it. She is excited to explore a new side of Tulsa and make the transition from crime to cuisine. .
