So, the football coach at the University of Florida has to take a break because he's under so much stress. Oh, please!

I'm not saying that it's not a tough job, but come on. Every time I hear some highly paid (and sometimes overpaid) person start whining about all the stress they are under, I want to scream.

Urban Meyer at Florida makes about $4 million a year. He probably makes more in camps, endorsements and what-not. I'm supposed to feel sorry for him? If he has a health issue, like his heart, I'm sympathetic. I'm sure he has access to the best doctors in Florida and he probably has a really good insurance policy. I suspect it's much better than at least 40 million other people in the U.S. have.

He, and other coaches such as OU's Bob Stoops, always tell us that they have to spend many days away from their families and that the pressure is always on them to do a good job. And how is that unlike most everyone else who make a hell of a lot less money?

Meyer thinks he is under a lot of stress? He should be a truck driver, making a whole lot less than he does, who is trying to make it home for the holidays and hoping he has enough money left to maybe buy his kids a few presents.

He should be thankful he has a job and enough money in the bank so he can take an indefinite leave of absence. He should spend some time with some of the unemployed trying to keep their house and make ends meet until a job comes along. If they want to complain about stress, I'm listening.

I grew up in a family of workers. I have worked as long I can remember at several different jobs – and I am not the hardest-working person in my family. My grandfather worked for more than 30 years for Gulf Oil Co. Not a desk job, but pulling casing out of wells, in all kinds of weather. He never got to take a leave of absence, but he did get a gold lapel pin for 30 years service.

My dad carried mail for 25 years and my mom has flipped hamburgers and worked for the city.

So, I don't want to hear Urban Meyer whine about the stress. He can spend the Christmas holiday on a beach with his family while most of the rest of us are dealing with snow and ice, sliding our way to work and wondering when the Visa bill is coming due.

Highly paid football coaches complaining about stress. Get a commercial drivers license and hit the road in a truck on an icy interstate. Then talk to me about stress.
