Weekly Planner: Your guide to what's happening this week

All but one of this week's picks for things to do in Tulsa are free. And, that one exception? It's just $7 for an Irish dinner. ...

5 fun and free things to do with your family this weekend

You're not going to run out of things to do this weekend. It will be easy to keep yourself, and the kids, busy with happenings ...

Can't get enough Woody Guthrie? Check out one of these events.

A friend told me he had thought more about Woody Guthrie in the last few days than he had his whole life.

It's no wonder. ...

This Christmas, it seems there's more to do on the holiday than ever.

Sure, many places will be closed for Christmas Day, but perhaps because Christmas falls on a weekend, there's plenty going on to keep us busy.

Santa
There's still time to see Santa. The Santa House at Utica Square will close at 4 p.m. Christmas Eve, though, so keep that in mind if you're racing for a last-minute meet up with the bearded guy.

Shopping
Many shops will stay open late on Christmas Eve. If you don't have a lot going on until Christmas Day, head out to Woodland Hills Mall to put you in the Christmas spirit. Let the kids ride the merry-go-round, and then indulge with a big dinner across the street at the Cheesecake Factory. Cheesecake for dinner? Sure, it's Christmas.

Winterfest
If you haven't yet checked out what's going on downtown, in front of the BOK Center, there's still time. Winterfest is open both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The ice rink is open Christmas Eve from noon to 5 p.m. and from 5 to 11 p.m. Christmas Day. Holiday carriage rides take place 6 to 9 p.m. Christmas Day.

Dining out
If you haven't yet planned a menu and don't want to mess with the grocery store, go out to eat. Yes, many restaurants are closed on Christmas Day, but there are several options for a nice dinner out on Christmas. Restaurant writer Scott Cherry's list can be found at tulsaworld.com/diningoutchristmas.

Movies
What better way to end Christmas Day than with a big bucket of popcorn and a great movie. "The Adventure of Tintin," "War Horse" and "We Bought a Zoo" are great options for families. "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is another big opening this weeknd. Go to tulsaworld.com/movies for more ideas.

Cheer up
If you're feeling down on Christmas, one of the best things you can do is lend a hand to someone. Volunteer to help with meals at the Salvation Army or at Iron Gate downtown.

Christmas can feel isolating for those who don't have family and friends to share it with. Many restaurants are closed, even familiar shops are closed. But, church doors all across Tulsa will be open Christmas morning. If you're feeling lonely, go to church. Sing along with traditional hymns, shake the hand of the person in the pew next to you and you might leave with a little peace and joy.
