What's your concept of Oklahoma art?

The Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition and the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa are collaborating on what will be the first exhibit for the council's new Hardesty Arts Center.

The organizations will host a special event to "artists information session" for Tulsa area artists 7 p.m. Wednesday (4 January 2012) at Harwelden, 2210 S. Main St.

"Concept/OK" will be an all-media show that will open December 2012, and will present a broad survey of contemporary works by state artists, placing these work in context with what is being done on a regional and national level.

In addition, the exhibit's curator will select several artists whose work will be part of a show within the larger show, that will also include works by artists from the Kansas City area.

Two artists will also be selected for special residencies, giving them more time to develop work that will be designed to more directly engage the audience.

A total of $15,000 in prize money will be awarded to artists in the show.

A University of Oklahoma Phi Beta Kappa graduate, Watts has received the Governor Arts Award, Harwelden Award and the National Conference of Christians and Jews Beth Macklin Award for his writing.
