When Busey Attacks

Watch Gary Busey make a new friend in Jennifer Garner.
The best drama on Sunday night at the Academy Awards came courtesy of a Tulsa boy and former best actor nominee.
What more can you say about Gary Busey (“The Buddy Holly Story”) after witnessing his pre-show moment with Ryan Seacrest, Laura Linney and Jennifer Garner?
Invading Seacrest’s space as he interviews people in the red-carpet conga line? Amusing and irreverent. Wishing well to Linney on her nomination? Very nice. Having never met Garner and then proceeding to bear-hug her and smooch her neck?
Why is this man pawing the visibly terrified Jennifer Garner?
There would seem to be three possibilities.
1. His actions were genuine (for Mr. Inappropriately Friendly, this is a possibility considering past bizarre Busey behavior).
2. It was staged by the E! network for word-of-mouth publicity (sad, but this could be true).
3. Busey was invited, and this was his attempt to audition for another reality show (“I’m With Mr. Inappropriately Friendly,” the sequel to his 13-episode VH1 weirdfest “I’m With Busey”).
Then consider: Which possibility is the least unnerving?

I would suggest another alternative;
Gary reverted back to his "TeddyJackEddy" days on the Uncanny Film Festival and Camp Meeting. Fortunately for Ms. Garner, she didn't look like Mr. Garrett and thus got a kiss on the neck rather than a slap across the cheek.
Ah, if only G.Ailard S.Artain were around...

Poor Gary's head injury keeps cropping up
and what about his religious problem

It was inappropriate for him to hug & kiss so vehemently, at their introduction -- Ryan had just introduced them, you know. But c'mon, she wasn't terrified, she was just taken aback & surprised, that's a little different from terrified. So don't overdramatize it, he's apologized. Maybe he had a bit too much champagne or something.

“I was born a poor, black child” … not me, actually, but Steve Martin’s character in the “The Jerk.” That absurd opening line is just one of the absurd number of film facts, quotes and minutiae contained in
movie critic Michael Smith’s
brain, at his disposal to toss out on a moment’s notice. It’s a key requirement as Tulsa World film critic to know these things. Michael learned a few other life facts along the way (seven years as a Crystal’s Pizza & Spaghetti manager) before attempting journalism and joining the Tulsa World in 1996, where he’s covered everything from a school shooting in Fort Gibson to a tornado in Stroud to witnessing an execution. A little community theater coverage was sprinkled in there, too. Movies engender many of his happiest memories, from standing in line for “Star Wars” and “Grease” at the Southroads Cinema to the James Bond and Pink Panther movies that always premiered at the enormous Continental Theater.

Big winner tonight: producer Harvey Weinstein. "The Artist" wins 5 Oscars, "The Iron Lady" goes 2-for-2, even wins best documentary.
