When a dress is not just a dress

Tonight -- that would be Thursday, 10 Sept. -- is the only time one will be able to experience the exhibit "Little Black Dress," now on display at the University of Tulsa's Alexandre Hogue Gallery, in its complete state.

Tonight is the reception for the 12 artists, each of whom created a work of art inspired by one of a series of evening frocks once owned by Tulsan Connie Cronley, when she was manager of Tulsa Ballet.

Most of the works have been on display since the show opened last month. But tonight will be the first time that the two performance works created for the show -- Carol Haralson's poem and a suite of solo piano works by Anna Norberg -- will be presented.

Norberg's work is a made up of six movements, each of which uses a different musical form. They are "Three-Quarter Length -- A Tea Waltz," "Not Just a Rag," "Little Black Dress Blues," "Take it Off Tango," "The Final Black Dress" and "Off the Rack Rumba."

The evening begins at 5 p.m., and the Hogue Gallery is near the corner of Fifth Street and College Avenue.
