When was Tulsa's last significant rain?

Tulsa has had less than normal rainfall, but as this "Pray for Rain" sign in the rural Oklahoma Panhandle community of Hough last week shows, it could be worse.(Photo credit: SHAWN YORKS/AP Photo/The Guymon Daily Herald)

The temperatures are less tolerable, the lawn is less green and the plants look less happy.

How long, exactly, has it been since Tulsa's last significant rainfall?

You can see the "Preliminary Monthly Climate Data" yourself on Tulsa's National Weather Service site here. However, for simplicity's sake, here's a breakdown of the daily rainfall amounts:

Tulsa last recorded at least 0.1 of an inch on June 16 (0.18 inches).

Tulsa last received at least 0.5 of an inch last month, May 24 (0.83 inches).

Tulsa last received at least an inch of rain on May 20 (1.12 inches).

Probably the most depressing of all statistics, is the monthly one: Tulsa hasn't had normal rainfall for a month since April (5.41 inches total, 1.46 above normal). Even our snow-filled February was only slightly above normal precipitation (0.62 of an inch).

Once again, these numbers are from the Tulsa International Airport and your area might have received more relief recently with some of this month's storms.

For many, however, there's hope that with tonight's expected severe weather comes more much-needed rain.
