The new White Owl restaurant, located on 15th Street where the old 15th Street Wok used to be, makes almost every dish in its own kitchen with one exception -- the ice cream.
"The ice cream is the one thing we are buying right now," said executive chef Curt Herrmann, "but we are looking for a great gelato that we will make ourselves. We will tweak and change things as we go along, and the gelato is high on our list."
Herrmann, former co-owner of the now-closed Curt & Marj's deli and catering, has been cooking outside the country -- mostly in Spain -- for the past decade before returning recently to head up the kitchen at the White Owl.
I will be writing a full review of the White Owl in the Jan. 29 Spot magazine.
