Sean Payton seems too much of a gentleman to have reacted to his punishment the way he's yelling from the sidelines here. But who could blame him?

It's a dark day for New Orleans Saints fans, my family included.

As soon as I heard about the NFL's penalties on the Saints for their bounty program from 2009 to 2011, I texted some loved ones in Mississippi.

Yes, I'm aware some may see this as a sign of the apocalypse that I'm blogging about football. But, despite the fact I don't know a whole lot about it, I still grew up with football, and the Saints are my family's team. Heck, we attended the same church as Archie Manning and his family, and I was allegedly cribmates with Peyton at First Baptist New Orleans -- perhaps my closest brush with greatness.

Anyway, people are fuming.

"Goodell is an idiot!" one male in my family said, referring to the NFL commissioner. "A lot of people believe the punishment was excessive. One man made this decision: Roger Goodell."

My two cents isn't worth much here, other than the fact I really, really hate this for Sean Payton.

"He received the harshest penalty of everyone," a family member told me. "The Redskins and other teams that had the same program received no punishment whatsoever."

What do you think about the punishments? Fair or excessive?

Peace, love and Saints ... XOXO

Living Wright

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
