At the cookout I went to Sunday evening, it was tank top, cutoff jean shorts and flip flops. My friend said to me, “you look ...
This blog was inspired by some of our early morning commenters on the weather forecast story .
Yes, as one of you pointed ...
The deluge earlier this month was exciting. For a second, I though that maybe the near-record parched May was just a fluke ...

An Oklahoma Mesonet map showing 24-hour rainfall. In inches, Bixby and Hectorville have 0.01; Skiatook 1.26; Copan 1.1; Claremore 0.25; Porter 0.02; Bristow 0.46; and Oilton 0.09. That's Newkirk with the 4.13 inches.
Oh yeah! Rain!
Much of the Tulsa area, especially spots north, got at least some measurable rainfall yesterday and showers continue their march eastward this morning.
Some totals so far:
As of 8 a.m., Tulsa International has received 0.14 inches of rain.Jones Jr. Airport has not seen any rain this morning, but got 0.01 inches yesterday afternoon. The winner of the last 24 hours was in Newkirk, which has seen 4.1 inches as of 9:30 a.m., according to the Oklahoma Mesonet. Most of the precipitation will stay to the north this morning, but the National Weather Service said more showers are
possible later today.
While this rain is nice, it will not do much to alleviate our
worsening drought issues. As my dad said, we'd need a monsoon to even make a dent in that problem. So, cross your fingers for some increased
hurricane activity in the Atlantic to send us some tropical weather (and, of course, make sure it crosses in an uninhabited area of the coast...). That may be our best shot for meaningful rainfall.
So make sure the garden soaks up as much as possible today, because the rest of the forecast is pretty redundant: Sunny and hot.
