Will Tulsa ever get a Dunkin' Donuts?

Doughnut fans are abuzz after an announcement this week that Dunkin’ Donuts plans to double its number of U.S. locations during the next two decades.

Everyone wants to know whether that means they can look forward to a new double D in their neck of the woods.

And since Tulsa clearly lacks a Dunkin’ Donuts, it begs the question whether our city will eventually get one of the restaurants.

We tried to reach a rep today to find out whether Tulsa might be part of the impending expansion, but had no luck.

Earlier this week, the Huffington Post ran a statement on its food blog from Dunkin' after they received inquiries into the locations of the new stores.

The statement indicated that the company recently announced plans to expand into Denver, Colo., Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Shreveport, La. and Albuquerque, New Mexico. The company also told the Huffington Post that “we are focused on a disciplined development in contiguous markets that are adjacent to our existing base.”

In Oklahoma, there are three Dunkin’ restaurants – two in OKC and one in Del City.

So, perhaps, we will have to rely on our friends at the other end of the turnpike to eat plenty of doughnuts and demonstrate a demand in our state.

Really! A doughnut is a doughnut . Day lite, Winchells, Dunkin, that over hyped place on 71st. Tried 'em all. Can't tell the difference. Indeed, have"nt had one in years. If I were to eat one again I would stick with the local joe, Day lite.

Cat - apparently you haven't been by the over hyped place on 71st' when the hot doughnut sign was on. There is nothing like that you can get anywhere else in Tulsa and if you can't tell the difference, you may as well be tube-fed. (I do like Da-lite as well).

Wasn't,t there a dunkin donuts at 21st and memorial years ago.??? SW corner.

Yes there was - very good memory. My daughter's first job was working at that Dunkin Donuts.

DD's Bavarian Cream donut is the best donut on planet earth. If one comes to Tulsa, it needs to be far away from my place of employment, or I will get fat quickly.

Sorry , big cat, but doughnuts are differnet

Compare krispy creme to regular doughnuts..
I will never ever one a kripsycream as I do not consider them real doughnuts

If you cant tell the difference, I wonder why?
Its very easy to tell the difference.

With Crispy creme you especially can tell

Give me a Bear claw, or an Apple Fritter any day over a doughnut.. either of those two are an entire breakfast with a glass of milk.

Point 1. Krispy Kreme is pure sugar. Period. Point 2. I am really getting tired of having to go "out of Oklahoma" or even to OKC to get a Dunkin Donut. I will say that Tulsa, by far, outpaces OKC in restaurant quality, but we DO need a DD. But, again, to find good roads and clean roadsides AND reststops, we DO have to leave the state! Go figure!!

Tulsa's local donut options are far superior to Dunkin Donuts.

Folks can argue about DD's doughnuts, but what I miss is their coffee. I buy DD's ground coffee at Reasor's, but it's not as good as what's served in the Dunkin' Doughnuts shops.

What?? Tulsa doesn't have a DD? I thought it was a law that it was required? The city better get on the stick and make it a requirement! How dare they slip up like that!

I think there used to be one at 21st and Memorial and around 3rd and Utica.

This misses the big question... Does Tulsa need a DD?

NO!

We're fat enough, thank you.

We already have - whatever that is on 71st just West of 169.. that makes the same thing..

Why does one of the fattest states in the union need a Dunkin Donuts?

A) It's good business to cater to your bottom line, and I would think that DD would benefit from moving into an area with a high obesity rate. (Sorry, it may not be "moral", but it's good business.)

B) Why should those of us who live a healthy lifestyle but would like to enjoy one as a "treat" every once in awhile be punished just because there are those that have no self control? (I was joking about my earlier "I'd get fat" comment.) It's a similar argument for those of us that do not support the prescription-only pseudoephedrine bill.

Daylight ran Dunkin out of town years ago. I've lived in cities with Dunkin Donuts and tried to treat myself to an occasional donuts there, but they were so bland and cakey, they just made me miss Daylight, so I stopped trying and stuck to their coffee, which I loved. If Daylight would start serving great-tasting coffee, Dunkin wouldn't stand a chance here.

I had to work the graveyard shift a while back in a small OK town that actually had a DD. I would go in just for the coffee -- everything else was closed. While their coffee had caffiene, that's about all I can say about it...
Tulsaboyw (last year)
yep... I wouldnt even take a kripsy creeme for free ever..
I cant stand eating them.... its definately better to get anything else.

But then dunkin and daylight are the same for me... or at least was back then.

When offered a kripsy I either refuse or toss it out.

Love Krisby Kreme and hope we get a couple DD in the area. I refuse to eat anything from Daylight, tastes like cardboard. It will be a long cold day in Hell before I ever step into a Daylight store.
