The movie poster for "The Descendants," which won an Oscar for writing in the best adapted screenplay category.
Who wants to win a copy of "The Descendants," George Clooney's Oscar-winning movie set in Hawaii, which comes out on DVD this week?
You can win a Blu-ray 2-pack (which also includes a digital copy for those without Blu-ray) by answering the following two-part question:
No. 1: Name the first movie in which Clooney appeared for which that picture received any Oscar nomination.
No. 2: Name the first movie for which Clooney received an Oscar nomination for best actor.
Submit your answers on this blog.
A random drawing from the correct answers submitted before 7 p.m. Wednesday will decide the winner. The winner will be contacted and told when to pick up a copy of the new DVD later this week.
A new contest to win a second copy of "The Descendants" on DVD begins on Wednesday. Check back on this blog for details.

The random number generated in this case was 2, and the second correct answer in this contest belonged to Goofy1. Congratulations!
I'll be in touch on Thursday to let you know how you can pick up your DVD copy of "The Descendants." This was contest No. 1; a new contest (there will be three) has already begun, if you notice on my blog, so try your luck again.
Thanks for playing!

“I was born a poor, black child” … not me, actually, but Steve Martin’s character in the “The Jerk.” That absurd opening line is just one of the absurd number of film facts, quotes and minutiae contained in
movie critic Michael Smith’s
brain, at his disposal to toss out on a moment’s notice. It’s a key requirement as Tulsa World film critic to know these things. Michael learned a few other life facts along the way (seven years as a Crystal’s Pizza & Spaghetti manager) before attempting journalism and joining the Tulsa World in 1996, where he’s covered everything from a school shooting in Fort Gibson to a tornado in Stroud to witnessing an execution. A little community theater coverage was sprinkled in there, too. Movies engender many of his happiest memories, from standing in line for “Star Wars” and “Grease” at the Southroads Cinema to the James Bond and Pink Panther movies that always premiered at the enormous Continental Theater.

Big winner tonight: producer Harvey Weinstein. "The Artist" wins 5 Oscars, "The Iron Lady" goes 2-for-2, even wins best documentary.
