Wine Enthusiast releases top 100 wines for $15 or less

Over the past year, tasting panels from Wine Enthusiast magazine reviewed more than 17,000 wines to be considered for its Best Buy list.

The magazine awarded the Best Buy designation to 1,134 wines, and from that group whittled it down to the top 100 for less than $15.

The magazine said it considered the best relationship between scores and price, and also considered the overall balance of the list. The final list represents 15 countries, 30 grape varieties, an average rating of 89.5 and an average price of $12.12.

The following are selected wines from the top 100 that typically are available in Oklahoma. Prices are suggested retail nationally and may vary slightly in local stores.

Vintages also may vary -- for instance, a 2010 wine might already be gone from the shelves and replaced by the 2011 vintage -- but flavor profiles for most of these wines will not vary much from year to year.

Chateau Ste. Michelle 2010 Dry Riesling, $9

Liberty School 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, $12

Black Box 2009 Merlot, $25/3 liter (equates to $6.25 a bottle)

Pacific Rim 2011 Dry Riesling, $11

Loosen Bros. 2010 Dr. L Riesling, $12

Hogue 2008 Red Table Wine, $7

Leese-Fitch 2010 Sauvignon Blanc, $13

Firestone 2010 Riesling, $14

Louis Jadot 2010 Beaujolais-Villages, $10

Rosemount 2009 Diamond Label Chardonnay, $10

Goats do Roam Wine Co. 2010 Rose, $10

Trapiche 2010 Oak Cask Malbec, $10

Jacob's Creek 2009 Reserve Chardonnay, $13

Gnarly Head 2010 Pinot Grigio, $10

Willamette Valley Vineyards 2010 Riesling, $12

Concha y Toro 2010 Xplorador Carmenere, $8

Kendall-Jackson 2010 Avant Chardonnay, $15

Castle Rock 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, $12
