Eleven-year-old
Rowan Blanchard
, who starred in 'Spy Kids,' has been cast as the main character on the upcoming Disney Channel show "Girl Meets World" - a spinoff from '90s show "Boy Meets World" - in which she will play Cory and Topanga's daughter Riley Matthews.
The update, told from the point of view of Riley, a 13-year-old, is scheduled to start filming next month.
On the new show, Cory and Topanga, now married, will be played by the original show's stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel.
Of casting Rowan, show producer Michael Jacobs told
Entertainment Weekly
:
"As soon as Rowan walked into the room, I was reminded of why Ben Savage was loved as Cory Matthews. Rowan is real and accessible and I am hopeful this girl is about to meet a world that will love growing up with her as well."

interests run the gamut: words, books, nature, music, art, furniture, writing, food and Snooki … Did she say Snookie?? No, no, not really Snookie, but squeezed in amid the high and medium brow is the real and made up life that entertainment continues to air and create, which makes Bravetta ponder upon, sing with, look incredulously at, laugh out loud about and then return to reality and her other interests. The prospect of dabbling in all of it and exploring what she was hasn’t was enough for the Alexandria, Va., native to pack her bags and go west to Green Country. Bravetta joined the Tulsa World in February 2012 after receiving degrees in journalism from Northwestern and Hampton universities. She’s previously interned at such newspapers as The Washington Post and the Knoxville News Sentinel and has worked in science publishing and education.
