Would you drive 40 miles for raspberry-flavored honey?

The Bartlesville Farmers Market is about a 40-mile drive north from Tulsa. Is it worth the drive? I think so.

If you've been to the markets around Tulsa and want a change of scenery, this is a great one.

Bartlesville has cultivated a good group of local farmers and food producers that make it worth the trip. For me, the raspberry-flavored local honey would be worth the trip alone.

Here's what else you can find at the Bartlesville Farmers Market on Saturday.

Produce and plants: farm-fresh eggs, cilantro, parsley, dill, chamomile, green garlic, lettuce, spinach, radishes, green onions and cut flowers.

Baked goods: The Rolling Pin's hearty breads, pastries and good hot coffee.

Meat: Free-range, hand-processed chickens; grass-fed and grain-fed beef, which is available in 1-pound packs, by the piece or by the quarter or half.

Honey: Local honey, from 12-ounce bears to gallon-size including flavors in blackberry, raspberry, cinnamon-apple and tangerine. Also, lip balm and moisturizers made with beeswax and olive oil.

When the opportunity to become the food writer at the Tulsa World presented itself in the summer of 2011, Nicole jumped at it. She is excited to explore a new side of Tulsa and make the transition from crime to cuisine. .
