Celebrate National Pie Day on Sunday with a big ol' slice of tequila.

Take your index finger -- either one, doesn't matter -- and hold it just an eyelash's length above your thumb. That, my friend, is how close I am to taking a scalpel to my stomach and using various attachments on my Hoover until I've sucked enough fat from my midsection.

OK, maybe that's a bit extreme. But I'm rather full from lunch with Bro. GoGo, who accompanied me to Yokozuna, 309 E. Second St., to split a plate of spring rolls (my favorite in town) for lunch. They were so good, we ordered another. This was after the complimentary miso soup (because it's a snow day, our lovely serving attendant told us). It was quite fabulous -- mushrooms, chunks of tofu, mmm-mmm-groovy. (Which reminds me, if you'll pretty please pardon a more random-than-usual non sequitur, I went to school at University

During the meal, I told Bro. GoGo -- or at least I think I did -- how much I was looking forward to going to Weight Watchers next Tuesday night. I know a few folks who go to that particular meeting, so I'm revved up to get started. No, I'm not going to spend the days between now and then seeing how much I can inhale, in case that's what you rightly assumed I was thinking. I'm going to be sensible, like some kinda Jane Austen character. When I turn 29 again on June 14, I'm gonna be a tauter-torsoed Gemini, just you wait. Just don't hold your breath.

Have y'all heard of Kerli? She's an Estonia native who won a Baltic version of "American Idol," according to a story on CNN.com. I saw one of her videos today on YouTube and love her now. Check out her "Army of Love," let me know what you think.

**********

In case you missed the special section of cards at Hallmark, Sunday is National Pie Day, according to one of the day's most interesting emails.

"Feeling nostalgic for the holidays and looking for a reason to celebrate?" the email began. Then Sunday's your day to literally feed that nostalgia, preferably with some pie. Stick with me for a sec, this gets interesting.

"Each year, pie enthusiasts from around the world honor this lesser known holiday by baking their favorite pie recipes, with even the American Pie Council suggesting we bake pies and give them away to friends and neighbors," the email continued.

The coolest part of this correspondence is that it comes from 1800 Tequila, which points out that those who aren't great pie bakers can toast the day instead with a pie-themed drink. Here's the yummy-sounding recipe they shared:

Caramel Apple Pie
1 oz. 1800 Silver Tequila
1/2 oz. butterscotch schnapps
1 oz. apple cider
1 tsp. lemon juice
1. Combine ingredients, and shake well with ice.
2. Strain into martini glass, then garnish with an apple slice.

Let me know if you try this. Bottoms up!

Peace, love and garnishes ... XOXO

I tried using my Hoover on myself years ago, but the only part that I could get into the nozzle got bigger instead of smaller...be careful there Jason.

Kerli...a studio created voice, looks great, sounds great, oozes sexuality, but can't really sing...

Go to Youtube and plug in: "edith piaf non je ne regrette rien" , then polug in "Judy Collins Who knows where the time goes 2000" , then plug in "JUDY COLLINS - In My Life (1966)" , then "Chrissie Hynde - Angel Of The Morning"...are you now seeing the difference between a great female singer, and a great looking female studio created singer.

And unlike what Chrissie Hynde's character says in the clip, "Angel of the Morning" was written by Anjelina Jolie's uncle (Chip Taylor is the stage name used by American songwriter) James Wesley Voight.

Ah, the trajic Little Sparrow. I have a ten CD set of her music. My favorite is "j'ai danse ave l'amour".
That's a cool tidbit of trivia regarding "Angel in the Morning." And, yes, there are quite a few studio-engineered voices out there. I had semi-hoped Kerli's wasn't one of them, as she sounded good in clips I saw of live performances. Obviously, the YouTube video I posted was no doubt buffed and polished.

And now that y'all have mentioned Piaf, I'm gonna have to find my Piaf CD and listen to it this weekend. Thanks!

Jason, if you are inclined, please write about your WW experiences. You are hilarious.

Best wishes; I am a lifetime member.
I need to rediscover Edith, Domo!

Thanks, Garfinckel! I'm hoping to write about the WW stuff. It really is a great program, which I should've stuck with in 2007. Hopefully, second time will be the charm.

There was a play a few years ago about Edith Piaf - it played in Dallas - not sure if it was ever here. That's how I came to know about her. Her music is beautiful - I've been listening to her for the last two days since this article appeared.

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
