Thursday is the final day to reserve seats for the Tulsa Oratorio Chorus' "Bluegrass and Barbecue" summer fundraising event, which will take place July 26 in the Great Hall of Bernsen Community Center, 700 S. Boston Ave.
The evening will feature the Tulsa premiere of "Come Away to the Skies: A High Lonesome Mass," a work that sets old-time hymns from the Sacred Harp tradition of shaped-note congregational singing to bluegrass accompaniment.
The piece was created by TOC artistic director Tim Sharp, who will also serve as the banjoist in the band that will accompany the TOC Chamber Chorus in the performance.
The World will have a full story about the creation of the work in this Sunday's paper.
Tickets for the "Bluegrass and Barbecue" event are $100, and are tax-deductible. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. and the music following.
