Hollywood showed out at the 85th Academy Awards, the actresses wearing everything from pastels and winter whites to some blues and reds and many, many shimmering metals.

Many of the evening’s stars pulled off memorable and flawless head-to-toe looks - including Broken Arrow's own Kristin Chenoweth who warmly greeted many of the night's show attendees, endearing and lovely-looking in her black-and-white Tony Ward dress.

"Zero Dark Thirty" actress Jessica Chastain, among the first to arrive on the red carpet, stunned many in Armani Privé. The copper-toned gown that seemed covered in a sheer veil of white was actually accented with light intricate beading. Chastain was classic Hollywood with her luminous red hair parted to the side and cascading in soft, loose waves.

An actress who's finally found her silhouette and is running with the look was Oscar-nominee Jennifer Lawrence. As the camera panned down, the "Silver Linings Playbook" star’s Dior Haute Couture gown was reminiscent of what she wore to the 2013 Golden Globes, but slightly below the hip, the elegant soft pink dress fanned out down to the ground.

Amy Adams wore an Oscar-worthy gown as well. The strapless powder blue Oscar de la Renta Adams wore featured a cascade of what looked like frayed ruffles. “The Master” actress wore a back-swept hairstyle that was a perfect match for the dress.

A number of other stars made very fashionable appearances on the red carpet including Reese Witherspoon, Naomi Watts, Charlize Theron and Oscar newcomer and history maker Quvenzhane Wallis.

Witherspoon, who was a presenter, wore a shining look in a blue and black gown by Louis Vuitton with a fishtail train. The actress donned a very classic hairstyle, wavy over one shoulder, and dazzled with just enough jewels – dangling diamonds – popular on the evening’s red carpet - and a delicate bracelet, also by Louis Vuitton.

Metallic notes

Watts, along with about a handful of other actresses brought a welcomed metallic dimension to the Oscars, wearing an unusually designed dress by Armani Privé that about the color of lead. Other stars that pulled off metallic fashion very well included actresses Halle Berry, Catherine Zeta Jones and Nicole Kidman.

"Snow White and The Huntsman" actress Charlize Theron’s buzz cut (for the upcoming film “Mad Max: Fur Road”) was highly anticipated and looked absolutely sexy on the Oscar-nominated actress. She complemented her new look with a sleek white Dior Haute Couture dress featuring a uncomplicated peplum. Her shoes were by Roger Vivier and her jewelry was Harry Winston’s.

This Oscar’s youngest nominee, 9-year-old Wallis, brought her signature puppy purse to the show. Wallis looked very much the special occasion, wearing an age-appropriate navy blue gown and shawl by Armani with a sparkling studded headband. The “Beast of the Southern Wild” starlet looked beautiful for her time on the Red Carpet.

The downside

It wasn’t so much that a few of the evening’s dresses left a lot to be desired, but moreso that they didn’t suit the women wearing them.

As award-winning was star Anne Hathaway’s performance in Les Miserables, the pink and pin-straight Prada gown was less flattering than the white peplum dress she wore at this year’s Globe awards. What’s worst, Hathaway wore a chunky necklace with the bridesmaid-esque gown that already had a high neckline.

In comparison to her looks at previous awards shows including last year’s 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards and Oscars, Melissa McCarthy, who presented at this year’s Oscar show, did not do herself justice, wearing a gray David Meister dress that did not flatter her. McCarthy’s dress choice and big hairstyle were a disappointment.

As detailed and unusual as was Les Miserables actress Amanda Seyfried’s gown by Alexander McQueen that featured a halter-like top, it was yet another Oscar look that did not meet the mark - this time in style and color.

Memorable Oscar looks

Notable looks from the evening including "Skyfall" singer Adele, who made an interesting, albeit colorful dress choice for the Grammy’s, wearing at this year's Oscars, a beautiful, beaded, black dress by Jenny Packham. Jane Fonda, looking fit as ever, made her presence known in a sunbeam yellow Versace, and actress Kerry Washington, another presenter for the evening, wore a glimmering Miu Miu gown that had a jeweled top and a solid pink-red bottom. Washington has lately worn a lot of neutral tones that look fabulous on her, but this bold color was a fresh look that worked as well.

A gentlemanly affair

Actors Bradley Cooper, Channing Tatum, Suraj Sharma, Liev Shreiber and Samuel L. Jackson were among the evening's most dapper looking gents, with Jackson not missing a beat in a wine-colored tuxedo jacket.
