WEATHER WORLD
While Oklahoma has been having a bit of rain this week of its own, Colorado is now recovering from its flooding last week.

Is it ever going to rain in Tulsa again?
That thought crossed my mind a lot during the past few summers of extreme to ...
Lyrical inspiration of the day:
Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, ...
In honor of how long it's been since Tulsa officially recorded rainfall (Aug. 16 as of my writing this), I thought it would be fun to introduce you to the "Cow."
A Tulsa National Weather Service meteorologist, after I asked about radar image archives, asked me to Google "IEM Cow"
"IEM" is the Iowa Environmental Mesonet. "Cow" is the National Weather Service Storm Based Warning Verification.
Check out the IEM Cow site here.
The radar image at the top of this blog entry is from the "Cow," which is an archived Tulsa area image of Aug. 16, the last time a major storm system passed through.
The "Cow" also tells us all of the active warnings from the NWS at the requested time. In Aug. 16's case, it was a flood warning for the Muskogee area.
Whether we continue having zero rainfall or in the event that our rain chances materialize this week (check out the updated local forecast at
tulsaworld.com/weather), I'll try to make the "Cow" a weekly weather blog feature.
When things are as dry here as they have been for almost a month now, it's nice to look back in the archives and remember how wonderful our summer was.

PS: I will be back tomorrow to discuss the U.S. Drought Monitor update. Given our state's lack of rainfall so far in September, I'm not optimistic.
