The website will optimize itself to the screen size of the device you use.

The Tulsa World will soon launch a website redesign that responds to new realities.

Using what is called responsive design, the World's premium journalism and reporting will appear on the web in a way that adapts to any device.

That means when you are on your smartphone, tablet or desktop computer, the content on tulsaworld.com will optimize within the screen size of your device.

The goal is simple. Make a site with an incredible amount of content easy to use.

The reality is that more and more people are getting their news from mobile devices, so we wanted to introduce a design that addresses that trend. Right now, tulsaworld.com isn't mobile friendly. You have to magnify the page to be able to read anything on a smartphone. With the new design, we will know what screen size you are looking at and the site will respond to it. Links will be big enough for your fingertip to click on them. Slideshows will be easy to swipe to see the next image and videos will play at full screen.

The site will also have a cleaner, simpler look, which helps the reader focus better on the content and advertising.

Check out this demonstration:

Many of the new features aren't changes. We believe they are improvements.

Section menus
The site also offers easier navigation, so you can quickly get to the sections or subsections you want. That's accomplished by the new dropdown menus available on every page on the website. On the old site, it took three clicks to get from the home page to high school football. In the new design, it takes one.

Story view
We've wiped away clutter and built each page with a simple and clean design. Images and videos by the Tulsa World's award-winning photojournalists receive a large portion of the page to best convey the captured moments of a story. The text is easier to read with improved fonts and letter sizes. Related content is organized in the new left column, which also offers the contact information of the reporter.

Comments
Tulsa World has always had a lot of reader engagement through comments. The comment section includes improved features for reading, replying
and making comments. No more pop-up windows. No more reloading the page when you want to read more comments.

Investigations
This new page organizes all the current investigations being done by the newsroom. Readers can find all the coverage on a particular topic on one page, including databases, documents, maps and graphics.

News Feed
The News Feed acts much like your Facebook Wall or your Twitter Home. You can scroll through all the stories of the day quickly and load more to go back as far as you want. You can switch to see the order of stories by the most viewed and the most commented.

Each section page will be designed throughout the day by our staff. There will no longer be templates that we plug content into. This allows us to design the content much like we do each day in the print edition. We have multiple fonts, headline sizes and configurations to lay out each page.

So when you visit tulsaworld.com, you won't see the same template each time. You will see a designed page to help you know quickly what are the biggest stories of the moment.

The redesigned site launches April 2.
