What an election, huh?

The polls showed Drew Edmondson ahead, but Jari Askins charged back to win the Democratic nomination for governor by less than 2,000 votes. I have no doubt that her use of a very famous former state employee named Barry Switzer as her voice man on final-days robo-calls was worth at least 2,000 votes. To wit, this poem:

There once was a ball coach named Barry,
Who made robo-calls for Miss Jari.
That blew away Drew,
Who walked away blue,
And sounds like some bad news for Mary.

Yes, Jari is crimson and cream,
And Switzer’s the coach of her team.
Will her quarterback scramble
-- a political gamble --
Fulfill her governor dream?

In Oklahoma’s fall elections,
Winning is built on perceptions.
Just a beginner?
Stand next to a winner
And pray for a chance interception.

The massive and proud Sooner nation,
Is a powerful voting foundation.
If you wish to be seated
(Or stay undefeated)
Then run with the wishbone formation.
