Broken windows are among the $1,000 damage caused at the drive-in.
There's a reason that Blake Smith, co-owner of the Admiral Twin Drive-in, looked so calm on Saturday while surveying the damage done by vandals.
"It's very small potatoes," Smith said of damages to the box office and concession stand building. The financial damage: Apparently about $1,000 to replace busted windows and light fixtures.
Blake told me two years the average amount he had to spend annually at the drive-in due to vandals: $15,000.
This was spent simply to re-open each spring, after the winter months had seen punks of all ages hit the place.
The usual repairs, he said, consisted of covering spray paint, replacing broken windows and buying new electrical fuses to replace ones that were damaged.
So while he doesn't relish spending another $1,000 to make repairs that were unneeded before late Friday or early Saturday morning, he's seen it all before in his years of owning the Admiral Twin.
He can see the big picture: the drive-in is reopening soon.
"It might set us back a day or two. I think probably it was just some bored kids. Unfortunately, sometimes businesses have to deal with this."
