"American Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has a plan – he wants President Barack Obama to come on the show and sing "Let’s Stay Together" with Al Green.
Lythgoe heard the President sing the opening lines of Green's hit R&B song at a recent New York fundraiser held in the Apollo Theater and was impressed.
"We loved your vocal performance so much we'd love to invite you on to 'American Idol' this season for a duet with Al Green," Lythgoe tweeted on Monday.
Green also declared Obama's version was "terrific" and "He nailed it," according to tmz.com.
The song got a 490% sales boost, according to Nielsen SoundScan via Billboard, reported cnn.com. And, the video went viral resulting in more than 16,000 downloads to be sold that week, according to Billboard.
