Felicia Day takes on YouTube personality Jesse Cox, her green deck handily taking down his red, during the Magic: The Gathering panel at SDCC.
Obviously, there's so much that goes on at San Diego Comic-Con, some great news gets overshadowed. So forgive me for being late to the celebration of this fun bit of nerdery.
It turns out Geek & Sundry, the online channel founded by queen of the nerds Felicia Day, is getting in bed with one of the most ubiquitous games in nerdom - Magic: The Gathering. Right now, the news is that an untitled Magic the Gathering Show is coming with Sean Plott (Meta-Dating).
Felicia bought some fresh D20s and played two matches on a G&S livestream during the Magic: The Gathering panel at SDCC, where she spread the news of the partnership and the new G&S show. This is a match made in heaven. With the launch of year two of Geek & Sundry and the recent release of Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers, it's like breathing new life into both brands.
Felicia said details are yet to be finalized on the Magic G&S show, but I hope it's like the livestream in which Felicia demolished thumb-wrestling champion James Isaacs (as she predicted, his "douchey" white deck was no match for her fierce black deck) and YouTube personality Jesse Cox. If you're a fan of Magic (or of seeing Felicia go all cutesy-commando-competitive and talk about what color deck different famous people are), you'll enjoy every second of the hourlong livestream. Check it out:
As part of the partnership, Felicia has already helped Magic out with promotion of its Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers digital game. (Learn more about it in this
great review from IGN.) A video featuring Felicia is a spoof on Planeswalker auditions, and it's a fun way to promote what looks to be a fantastic game.
