Celeb endorsements gone wild?

As if her performance at the American Music Awards wasn't enough, Jennifer Lopez's endorsement deal with Fiat is garnering lots of coverage -- and controversy.
First, many hairpieces were scratched at the awards show when she rolled out her Fiat onto the stage during the middle of her song. Think it was a little over-the-top? Yep, me too.
Now, another commercial is stirring up trouble.
First, Chrysler quickly settled a lawsuit for Jenny from the Block's Fiat commercial, after being
sued by graffiti artist TATS Cru.
But this week, many are irked after
The Smoking Gun revealed her "My World" commercial, an ode to her humble beginnings in the Bronx, was shot using a body double. J-Lo, the website claimed, never set foot there and shot her parts from an LA sound stage.
Potato, po-tah-to? Or annoying celebrity shenanigans?
I remember when it was considered gauche for celebs to shill products -- not too long ago, they used to go to Japan to sell deodorant and Germany to sell diet pills on the quiet.
It was classy that way. Very Bill Murray in
Lost in Translation.
Now, with Kardashian mania and all sorts of "branding" deals, I'm thinking the whole celebrity advertising thing has gotten a little out of control.
They should spend that time making their music/films/TV shows better, don't you think? Maybe I'm just picking on poor J-Lo. Don't get me wrong. I'm a fan -- of her fashion and her acting talent.
But does she have you racing out to buy a Fiat? She does look fabulous driving one.
