R.A. Dickey joined a very exclusive club of former Tulsa Drillers pitchers when he picked up his 20th win of the season on Thursday as the New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5.
Dickey (20-6), who tied a career-best with 13 strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings, is only the fourth former Drillers pitcher in the team's 36 years to win 20 games in a major league season.
The only other former Drillers to win 20 in a season after pitching for Tulsa are Kevin Brown, who went 21-11 for Texas in 1992, Rick Helling, who went 20-7 for Texas in 1998, and Jamie Moyer, who went 20-6 in 2001 and 21-7 in 2003 for Seattle.
Dickey, 37, pitched for the Drillers in 1999. He is the third oldest pitcher to win 20 games for the first time. Mike Mussina was 39 in 2008 and Moyer was 38 in 2001...

Former Oral Roberts and Perkins pitcher Jeremy Hefner responded from his worst major league start with one of his best on Wednesday for the Mets. He allowed only three hits in seven innings of a 6-0 victory over Pittsburgh.
On Sept. 20, Hefner didn't get anybody out as he allowed seven runs in a 16-1 loss to Philadelphia. Hefner is 3-7 with a 5.32 ERA. Overall, he has pitched fairly well for a rookie, but he definitely needed a good outing Wednesday to solidify his spot in the Mets' plans for 2013...
Former Drillers lefty Drew Pomeranz has had a disappointing 2012 but he showed his tremendous potential on Wednesday with five shutout innings for Colorado in a win over the Cubs. Pomeranz (2-9, 5.01 ERA) ended a streak of five consecutive starts without going five innings. His only other win came when he outdueled Washington's Stephen Strasburg on July 6.
