On Wednesday night, San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval joined Babe Ruth (twice), Reggie Jackson and Albert Pujols as the only players in World Series history to hit three homers in a game.
The following pitchers allowed the third homer in those Series games: Hi Bell (1926-Ruth), Grover Cleveland Alexander (1928-Ruth), Charlie Hough (1977-Jackson), Darren Oliver (2011-Pujols) and Al Alburquerque (2012-Sandoval).
The newest members of that pitching club -- Oliver and Detroit's Alburquerque -- are former Tulsa Drillers relievers.
In 1926, Ruth also hit a homer off former Tulsa Oilers pitcher Jesse Haines in Game 7, but it was not enough as Haines picked up the win and Alexander the save as the St. Louis Cardinals won their first world title.
Ruth came up empty against Haines in the '28 World Series.
When Jackson hit his three homers in Game 6 of the '77 Series, the beneficiary was former Tulsa Oilers pitcher Mike Torrez, who pitched a complete game to win the Series clincher....
